A collision between two helicopters in Northwest Oregon killed all three people on board.
On Thursday, Oct. 29, a Robinson R22 Beta helicopter and an Airbus AS350B2 helicopter collided midair near McMinnville Municipal Airport around 2:10 p.m. local time, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The helicopters crashed in a field adjacent to Highway 233, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office said in a media release. Yamhill County Sheriff Sam Elliott described it as a “privately owned farm” in a news conference.
One of the helicopters had two people aboard, while only a pilot was aboard the other, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). There were no survivors, the sheriff’s office said.
“The occupants of the Robinson R22 were identified as flight instructor Maddie Aasbo, 22, of Texas, and a student pilot from the United Kingdom, whose identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification,” the sheriff’s office said. The occupant of the Airbus was identified as Tyler Delane Sturdevant, 38, of Newberg, Ore., the sheriff’s office said.

The scene has been turned over to the FAA and the NTSB, who are at the scene, Elliott said in the news conference.
The NTSB sent two investigators to the accident site.
“After the wreckage is documented, it will be recovered and moved to a secure facility for further examination,” the agency said in a statement shared with PEOPLE.
Jerry Trimble Helicopters said one of its helicopters was involved in the crash, according to a social media statement.
“Our hearts and thoughts are with the individuals involved, their families, and everyone affected by this event,” the statement said. “We are immensely grateful for the rapid response and the dedication of local emergency services and first responders.”
The company said it is “fully cooperating” with local emergency management, law enforcement, the FAA, and the NTSB to “secure the site and determine the cause of the incident.”
