Danny DeVito brought some special guests onstage with him at a 30th anniversary screening of Matilda.

On Friday, Oct. 30, DeVito, 81, appeared at London’s Royal Albert Hall to host a special live-narrated screening of the hit 1996 kids’ movie — and the rest of the cast joined him as a surprise for the audience.

Star Mara Wilson joined DeVito (who directed and starred in the film), along with Pam Ferris (Miss Trunchbull), Kiami Davael (Lavender), Jacqueline Steiger (Amanda Thripp) and Kira Spencer Hesser (Hortensia) at the concert hall, as the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra played composer David Newman’s score alongside the film.

“We do have a very special surprise tonight,” Newman shared during a pre-film talk before DeVito, 81, announced to cheers from the audience that Wilson, 39, and the other stars would be stopping by.

In a post after the event, Wilson shared a heartfelt message on Instagram about the cast reunion, alongside a picture of the group posing together.

“Matilda 30th Anniversary Celebration at Royal Albert Hall in London!” she wrote.

“Five thousand Matilda fans! I still cannot believe it!” Wilson continued. “What a joy to celebrate with people who mean so much to me, with whom I share so many wonderful memories. Jaki, Kiami, Pam, Kira, David Newman, and of course, Uncle Danny, I love you all.”

Released in July 1996, Matilda is based on Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book and follows a gifted young girl who finds confidence and strength despite her difficult circumstances.

Wilson played the titular Matilda Wormwood, and DeVito portrayed her father, Harry Wormwood.

Wilson has previously been candid about how DeVito, along with his wife and costar, Rhea Perlman, supported her behind the scenes of the film, as her mother, Suzie Wilson, was diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer during production and eventually died just three months before the movie was released.

Earlier this year, Wilson opened up about what her relationship with her “Uncle Danny” meant to her during such a difficult time in her life.

“[DeVito] really helped me and my family when we were going through something terrible,” she said during a July 2026 event. “And they were very loving and kind, and I made so many lifelong friends on that. And yes, there were hard days, but there were also days where it felt like summer camp, and I am still friends with the people that I worked on it with today.”
