Baywatch is back.
The blockbuster 1990s drama has officially been rebooted into a show coming to Fox in January 2027. The reboot, which began production in early 2026, is introducing a new group of heroic lifeguards to the franchise — including Stephen Amell, Shay Mitchell, Jessica Belkin, Noah Beck, Brooks Nader and Livvy Dunne.
The 12-episode first season revolves around the grown-up version of original character Hobie Buchannon (Amell) as the Baywatch Captain in charge of the daring lifeguards. However, his life gets turned upside down when he’s surprised by the arrival of his daughter, Charlie (Belkin), who wants to follow in her dad’s footsteps.
While the reboot features a new cast of characters, it’s also expected to include some of the original cast members. Previous stars Michael Bergin, Kelly Packard and David Chokachi were all photographed filming scenes for the reboot in Venice Beach, Calif., in May 2026.
Here’s everything to know about the Baywatch reboot, including the cast, plot and release date.

The Baywatch reboot resembles the original show, in that it centers around a fit group of lifeguards protecting beachgoers from various disasters. When they’re not saving lives, the lifeguards are intertwined in complicated love lives and friendships.
“The series reboot will celebrate the franchise’s enduring legacy, while re-energizing it for today’s global audience,” the logline reads. “Fans can expect all the adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original — now with an entirely new cast, contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges, and a renewed mission to protect Southern California’s shoreline.”
The first 12-episode season revolves around a grown version of Hobie (Amell), who was previously the wild child of chief lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Hasselhoff) and is now the Baywatch Captain. Similar to Hobie’s own upbringing, he gets the surprise of a lifetime when his daughter Charlie (Belkin) shows up at his doorstep in hopes of living on her family’s legacy and becoming a Baywatch lifeguard.
Although Hobie is initially hesitant, he lets his daughter join the team, and both of their lives are changed forever.

In addition to Amell and Belkin leading the cast as father-daughter lifeguards, the Baywatch reboot also stars Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi and Thaddeus LaGrone.
Viewers can also expect to see appearances from Megan Thee Stallion, Ashley Moore, Luke Eisner, Nadia Gray, Kylar Miranda and Charlie McElveen in recurring roles.
Prior to the season premiere, Fox had only confirmed that Chokachi, who portrayed lifeguard Cody Madison, would be reprising his role. Chokachi will return as Cody, who is now running the The Shoreline bar-and-grill, but he “still puts on the red trunks for the occasional shift saving lives” and acts as a “mentor” and “friend” of the new generation of lifeguards, according to the synopsis.
Meanwhile, Michael Bergin and Kelly Packard, who played Jack “J.D.” Darius and April Giminski, were seen filming scenes in swimsuits alongside Chokachi in May 2026.
Is there a trailer for the Baywatch reboot?
The trailer for the first season of the Baywatch reboot was released on Oct. 13.
The teaser kicks off with Charlie looking for her dad on the beach when a small plane suddenly crashes into the ocean and all the lifeguards take action. Shortly after Charlie introduces herself to Hobie, she tells him she wants a job as a lifeguard and he shares his concerns over the danger of the job.
“Saving people is my purpose,” Charlie tells her father.
As Charlie gets acquainted with the group, she learns of the interpersonal dynamics of the Baywatch crew, which includes no shortage of love interests.
