  • She recalled Stephanie Tanner worrying Santa would not find her family during their airport delay
  • Sweetin said playing Christmas on television made the episode especially memorable as a child

Jodie Sweetin still “vividly” remembers filming the first Full House Christmas episode.

The 44-year-old actress opened up to Parade about what it was like to film the seasonal special at just 6 years old.

In a season 2 episode titled “Our Very First Christmas Show,” the Tanner family gets stuck at an airport and has to spend Christmas waiting for a snowstorm to clear, leading her character, Stephanie Tanner, to stress about whether or not Santa will still leave them presents.

“It’s funny. I remember, I don’t know why, but the first Christmas episode that we had where the family gets stuck in the airport in Colorado,” Sweetin shared. “We’re trying to get to Becky’s family or to somewhere and we don’t make it. I remember it really vividly. I think because Steph had a big piece in it where she was really worried that Santa wasn’t gonna find him.”

As such a young actor, Sweetin said the character’s need to find Santa made her feel like it was “a legit” issue.

“How are we solving this problem? You know? I got to draw the little map that Steph has to let Santa find them and everything. I just remember that,” she said.

She also recalled her on-screen uncle, played by John Stamos, “in a turtleneck.”

“He was wearing a turtleneck and some lady grabs him and kisses him, which [was] really inappropriate. But it was like all of these fun things,” Sweetin remembered.

The episode, which aired in December 1988, ends with a key moment that stuck in Sweetin’s memory: her on-screen father, played by Bob Saget, “on the conveyor belt coming back in, covered in snow.”

“It was the first time I got to play Christmas on TV, you know? As a kid, that’s kind of fun and exciting,” she said of why the episode is so ingrained in her memory.

Sweetin starred on the sitcom until she was 13. The cast, who recently reunited at ‘90s Con, also included Candace Cameron Bure, Lori Loughlin, Dave Coulier, Scott Weinger, Andrea Barber, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
