Hardcore legends Converge are finally heading back Down Under, announcing their first Australian tour since 2019 with a run of Australian and New Zealand shows in March 2027. And they’re arriving with two new albums and 35 years of musical carnage behind them.
The Massachusetts four-piece have spent more than three decades tearing up the rulebook, fusing hardcore punk, metal and emotional intensity into a sound that has influenced generations of heavy bands.
But Converge aren’t interested in simply revisiting past glories. In 2026, vocalist Jacob Bannon, guitarist Kurt Ballou, bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller released two full-length albums, Love Is Not Enough and Hum of Hurt, proving there’s still plenty of creative fire left in the tank.
Released through Deathwish and Epitaph, the records explore different sides of the band’s identity. Love Is Not Enoughdelivers the metallic ferocity that has become their calling card, while Hum of Hurt digs deeper into their hardcore roots, with a rawer, more emotionally exposed approach.
Of course, no discussion of Converge is complete without Jane Doe. Released in 2001, the album remains a landmark in extreme music, its collision of abrasive guitars, fractured rhythms and emotional turmoil helping redefine the possibilities of metalcore.
Twenty-five years later, its influence is still being felt.
To mark the anniversary, Converge will perform Jane Doe in full at Melbourne’s inaugural Lucidity festival on 13 March. The sold-out appearance will be only the third time the band has played the album in its entirety, following performances at Roadburn in 2016 and Decibel Metal & Beer Fest in 2021.
For those who missed out, the accompanying headline tour offers another opportunity to experience one of hardcore’s most formidable live acts.
Australian powerviolence veterans Extortion and Melbourne metalcore outfit Ends in Tragedy join the Australian headline dates, while Texan experimental metal outfit Portrayal of Guilt appear at the additional Melbourne show and both New Zealand performances.
The tour kicks off in Perth on 11 March before heading to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney’s Factory Theatre on 17 March and Brisbane, followed by shows in Wellington and Auckland.
Thirty-five years into their career, Converge remain fiercely committed to pushing heavy music into uncomfortable territory. With two new albums and a catalogue that has helped shape an entire genre, their return is a major event for Australian hardcore fans.
