Heather Rae El Moussa is sharing new details about the harrowing home break-in she and husband Tarek El Moussa experienced over the summer.
During a Wednesday, Nov. 4, appearance on the Money Rehab with Nicole Lapin podcast, the Selling Sunset star, 39, reflected on the burglary at her Southern California home, including what she and her husband learned from it. At the time the episode was recorded, Heather said the burglars still had not been identified.
“We have them on camera. The detectives are still working, but I think that, you know, they’re professionals. They were in and out of our house in three minutes,” she told Lapin.
After sharing details of her family’s vacation on social media at the time of the break-in, Heather said she has since learned some lessons from the scary experience.

“We learned from it,” she continued. “I did make the mistake of posting in real time that we are gone. So, that was a mistake. And I think we’re natural targets. We’re on social media. We’re on reality shows. And I do think that it was a targeted thing.”
The El Moussas star on the HGTV house flipping competition series, The Flip Off, together alongside Tarek’s ex Christina Haack. Heather also announced in April that she is returning to Selling Sunset for its forthcoming tenth season.
Heather added that since the incident occurred, they have “upped” security around their house and are continuing to “take precautions.”
The incident occurred at the couple’s Newport Beach home between June 6 and June 8, when “unknown suspects accessed the backyard of the property and shattered a rear sliding glass door to get into the house,” the Newport Beach Police Department previously confirmed to PEOPLE.
“Inside the residence, the suspects ransacked the primary bedroom closet before fleeing through the backyard, along the side of the house and out the front yard,” the department added.

While there was no additional information shared about the suspects at the time, the department confirmed that jewelry was stolen from the property.
Heather and Tarek first spoke out about the break-in through a joint Instagram statement on June 12. In the post, they explained that they were grateful their family was unharmed following the incident, however they were also mourning the loss of some sentimental items that were also taken.
“Our home has always been our sanctuary, the place where Tarek and I raise and protect our babies, love our family and find peace,” the stars wrote at the time. “Having that space violated has been deeply unsettling, but we are profoundly grateful that our family is safe.”
“While material things can be replaced, our hearts are broken over the irreplaceable family heirlooms and special memories that were taken from us,” they continued.
The pair also noted that they are “taking every precaution to protect our home moving forward” and thanked law enforcement for their “swift response and diligent work.”
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and support,” they said. “Your kindness means more than we can say as we work to restore peace to our home.”
