Erin Napier is celebrating the power of home this holiday season.

The HGTV star, 40, will publish a new children’s book, perfectly suited for winter. PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at The Christmas House, out this fall from Tommy Nelson.

A companion book to her 2022 bestselling children’s book The Lantern House, Napier’s new release centers on being home during the holidays. The Christmas House is told from the perspective of a house, and follows a family through their seasonal preparation and traditions.

The book also features art by Adam Trest, who illustrated The Lantern House.

“Our houses are really the keepers of our family traditions at Christmas,” Napier tells PEOPLE. “This is something that becomes especially apparent once you have small children. They LIVE for decorating the house.”

It likely comes as no surprise that the Home Town co-host has her own family holiday traditions. Napier shares two daughters with her husband and HGTV collaborator, Ben.

“The thing that feels so good about it that my children don’t yet have the language for, is when we do these traditions year after year we are bringing our childhoods back to the surface, we are celebrating the people we don’t have anymore by making their recipes and hanging their stockings, and our houses are the center of all of this,” Napier says.

In addition to her children’s books, Napier and her husband published a co-written memoir, Make Something Good Today, in 2018. She also highlighted the sentimentality of cozy spaces in her 2023 book Heirloom Rooms, which features the spaces of her family and friends.

“I’ve become bored of the photos of perfectly styled and staged interiors you see so much of in the online world and wanted to create a book celebrating the imperfection of our houses,” Napier previously told PEOPLE. “How perfect and clever can our houses be seems to be the refrain of social media. But what about the life lived in those rooms?”

“The styling can be an outward reflection of who we are and what we love — but really, our houses are the backdrops of our lives and celebrations and failures, of growing families,” the author adds.

The Christmas House will be published on Oct. 6 and is now available for preorder, wherever books are sold.
