A Florida baker thought an Uber courier stole nearly 400 cinnamon rolls she had made to sell at a local farmers market — but Border Patrol had actually detained the driver while he was making the delivery.

Julie Pierre, owner of Roll and Dough Bakery, a small business in Fort Lauderdale, shared on social on Aug. 22 that more than $3,000 worth of baked goods never arrived at Yellow Green Farmers Market, where they were scheduled to be sold that day, according to Fox 10, NBC 6 and the Tampa Bay Times.

At the time, Pierre, 21, said she believed the Uber driver — a man who was later identified as Ivan Dario Rico Molano — must have taken them.

However, Pierre posted an update on Instagram five days later on Aug. 27 saying that she learned her baked goods had not, in fact, been intentionally stolen.

“Five days ago, nearly 400 of our cinnamon rolls disappeared during an Uber delivery. The order never reached its destination, we could not contact the carrier, and no one — including Uber — could tell us what had happened,” she wrote in the post.

“As a 21-year-old running a small business on my own, I was scared, overwhelmed, and trying to recover days of work and thousands of dollars in products,” she continued, adding that she ultimately filed a police report per Uber’s instructions.

Uber did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

She went on to say that the Sunrise Police Department “finally informed us of what happened” on Aug. 27, sharing that Ivan had “been detained by immigration authorities during the delivery.”

According to a Border Patrol spokesperson, Molano was arrested during a traffic stop in Hollywood, per Fox 10.

The spokesperson additionally said that Molano, who is a citizen of Colombia, admitted he was in the United States without proper authorization, per the outlet.

Fox 10 additionally reported that records indicate Molano entered the U.S. legally in May 2021, but his authorization period had since expired.

The U.S. Border Patrol and the Sunrise Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

In her social media update, Pierre went on to say that she learned a family member of Molano had retrieved his vehicle after he was detained, and the Sunrise Police Department ultimately returned the rolls to her five days after the initial incident.

Pierre added that Roll and Dough Bakery is “deeply sorry for what Ivan and his loved ones are currently experiencing.”

“If anyone has verified contact information for Ivan’s family, please connect us privately. With their permission, we would like to donate a portion of our proceeds toward qualified legal assistance as he navigates his current immigration situation,” she added.

In a follow-up video shared to Instagram on Aug. 28, Pierre said that she wanted to make “the timeline [of events] very clear,” adding that her police report regarding the stolen goods had nothing to do with Molano’s detention, which she said took place earlier in the day.

“I want to make one thing completely clear: I do not support ICE or any policy that separates people from their homes and families,” she added in the post’s caption.

“Please do not place responsibility on me for something that had already happened and was entirely outside of my control,” she continued. “My heart remains with Ivan and his family. If this situation has moved or angered you, please turn those feelings into meaningful action: speak out, support affected families, and vote.”

Pierre said Uber has since reimbursed her for the delivery, per Fox 10.
