SOMBR is heading back to Australia and New Zealand in April 2027, and the rooms have become considerably bigger. The New York singer-songwriter will bring his ‘You Are The Reason Tour’ to arenas in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland following a rapid rise that has turned him into one of pop’s biggest recent breakthroughs.
The tour begins at Adelaide’s AEC Arena on April 13 before heading to Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on April 15 and Brisbane Entertainment Centre on April 19. SOMBR then plays Sydney’s Afterpay Arena on April 22, before crossing the Tasman for the final show at Auckland’s Spark Arena on April 27.
It is a sizeable leap from SOMBR’s first Australian and New Zealand visit last December, when his headline dates sold out and he appeared at Spilt Milk Festival. In the relatively short period since, the 20-year-old has released his debut album ‘I Barely Know Her’, toured extensively and continued turning the enormous online audience around his music into an equally enthusiastic live following.
Much of that ascent can be traced through ‘back to friends’. Written and co-produced by SOMBR, the single reached number one on Spotify’s Global and US charts, cracked the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 and spent five consecutive weeks at the top of Alternative Radio. At one point he also had five songs simultaneously sitting inside Spotify Australia’s Top 10.
The momentum carried into awards season, with SOMBR entering 2026 with a Best New Artist Grammy nomination after a year that included a Best Alternative win at the MTV VMAs. Performances on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ and ‘Saturday Night Live’ pushed him further into the mainstream without losing the bedroom-pop fingerprints that shaped his earliest recordings.
That origin story remains unusually visible. SOMBR began recording in a makeshift studio on New York’s Lower East Side and remains the sole songwriter behind his songs, as well as taking a co-production role. His music now operates on a much larger scale, mixing arena-sized pop with indie guitars and a fondness for writing directly about young love, longing and heartbreak.
Debut album ‘I Barely Know Her’, co-produced with Tony Berg, arrived in 2025 and turned the breakthrough into something more substantial. ‘back to friends’, ‘12 to 12’ and ‘undressed’ all charted simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 and subsequently picked up Platinum certifications across multiple territories, including Australia and New Zealand.
The live side has expanded just as quickly. SOMBR has appeared at Coachella, Sziget and Lollapalooza, while his headline tours have sold out across North America, the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Along the way, his shows have attracted surprise appearances from Billy Corgan, Sam Smith, Billy Idol and Laufey.
New music has kept arriving throughout 2026. ‘Homewrecker’ and ‘Potential’ continued pushing his sound forward before ‘My Body Isn’t Ready’ delivered another international Top 10 debut and matched his previous UK chart peak.
The ‘You Are The Reason Tour’ now brings SOMBR back to the region barely more than a year after his debut visit, but the move into arenas tells the story more efficiently than any streaming statistic. The bedroom studio is getting further away in the rear-view mirror.
