Multi-genre artist, songwriter and producer vincethealien returns with the jazzy, hip-hop and R&B sweller ‘Poisonous Child’ – an atmospheric, intricate new single that turns unresolved anger into movement, vulnerability and, ultimately, release.

Exploring the complicated space between resentment and revelation, the track asks what happens when we stop resisting difficult emotions and instead allow ourselves to understand what they are trying to reveal.

“When I started writing Poisonous Child, I realized I’d been carrying around an anger that had been quietly building for a long time”, says vincethealien. “It came from watching friendships change, drift apart, or end without ever really understanding why. That uncertainty sat with me longer than I wanted to admit.”

The song emerged from a period of emotional reckoning, as vincethealien confronted the grief of relationships changing without clarity or closure. The first lyric he wrote, “You became my angel, and also my hurt”, became the emotional foundation for the track, reflecting the tension between affection, pain and the emotions left unresolved.

“Poisonous Child is about confronting anger, but it’s also about what can happen when you stop resisting your emotions and let yourself move through them”, he says. “If people find themselves dancing while also feeling something deeper underneath, then I think we accomplished exactly what we set out to do.”

Originally developed in 2025 with a more experimental approach to production and structure, the song was eventually revisited with producer MOTTRON, giving vincethealien the opportunity to reshape it around its emotional core. The process also brought in TATISHI/COLDPRESSEDPAPI and BLCKBUTTERFLY, two artists he deeply admires. Their involvement created a collaboration between three queer Black artists centred on vulnerability and emotional honesty.

MOTTRON’s production gives ‘Poisonous Child’ a surprising sense of joy, setting its physical energy against the weight of its subject matter. BLCKBUTTERFLY’s hip-hop-inspired ad-libs bring an infectious sense of movement, while Tatishi’s verse adds another layer of emotional directness, captured in the lyric, “Just show me an emotion”.

“That lyric gets me every time because it captures the heart of the song”, says vincethealien. “More than explanations, I just wanted honesty. I wanted people to show up with emotion instead of defense mechanisms.”

That idea also carries into the single’s visual identity, with artwork centred on the removal of masks and the layers people use to protect themselves. For vincethealien, the imagery reflects an ongoing process of becoming more honest with himself and others.

‘Poisonous Child’ is the latest step towards vincethealien’s forthcoming EP, A Necessary Breaking, due in January 2027. The project will collect the singles released during this chapter alongside one additional track, continuing an exploration of emotional confrontation, transformation and the things that sometimes need to break before something more honest can emerge. The next single, ‘Elongated Time’, is scheduled for September 25, 2026.

Balancing catharsis with celebration, ‘Poisonous Child’ ultimately finds freedom in feeling rather than fighting. It is a track about anger and what lies beneath it, but also about the possibility of moving through difficult emotions and emerging on the other side with fewer masks and more room to be honest.
