- Sandra Bullock played a major role in shaping the Practical Magic 2 soundtrack, with producer Denise Di Novi telling PEOPLE the actress was “integral” to the music selection process
- “Sandra Bullock is so talented with music,” Di Novi said
- The sequel’s soundtrack has not yet been released, but Bullock has teased that songs from Stevie Nicks and Olivia Rodrigo will appear in the film
Sandra Bullock was a major creative force behind the soundtrack for the upcoming Practical Magic 2, according to the film’s co-producer Denise Di Novi.
Di Novi, 70, recently caught up with PEOPLE exclusively during the film’s press junket at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. During the conversation, she shared that Bullock, 62, was “integral” in selecting songs for the project.
“Sandra Bullock is so talented with music,” Di Novi tells PEOPLE exclusively.
“She started as a dancer and she’s very gifted with music,” she continues. “She’s an executive producer on the [movie’s] album. She was extremely integral with our music supervisor Season [Kent] and Gabe [Hilfer] … it was all a collaboration with us in the studio. She really was a force with this.”

“And we knew the soundtrack from the first album was a tremendous success and still is and we really felt the pressure to have this movie use songs in the way that the first movie did, and have a soundtrack where people were, like, ‘I have to download that. I have to get that,’ ” she adds.
The soundtrack for the original 1998 film includes tracks like “If You Ever Did Believe” by Stevie Nicks with Sheryl Crow, “This Kiss” by Faith Hill, “Got to Give It Up (Part 1)” by Marvin Gaye and “Always On My Mind,” by Elvis Presley.

While the soundtrack for the upcoming sequel has not been released, Bullock recently teased that songs from both Nicks and Olivia Rodrigo may appear in the film.
After Nicks, 78, and Rodrigo, 23, performed a duet at the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, Calif., on Aug. 29, Bullock shared a video of the performance to her Instagram Stories.
“Angel voices that are part of an upcoming film,” she wrote over the video, per Rolling Stone.

The new film follows Owens sisters Sally and Gillian, played by Bullock and Nicole Kidman, respectively, as they tackle an old family curse alongside Sally’s grown daughters, Antonia (Joey King) and Kylie (Maisie Williams).
While previously speaking to PEOPLE about the upcoming movie, Bullock and Kidman, who also serve as co-producers on the project, shared that the time felt right for a sequel — in many ways because they felt the past 30 years have imbued them with more to share on family and womanhood.
“I remember being on the phone [with each other], and we were like, ‘Okay, what’s the story? Why should we make it?’ And we just started riffing,” Kidman, 59, said.
“A lot of it was based on how every family carries something, and how do you deal with it and remove the patterns that have been existing for so long from generation to generation? As sisters, we were both like, ‘Oh yeah, you now carry the family as people pass and move on.’ That was something that I so related to,” she continued.
“Well, you’re carrying the family forward,” Bullock added. “And I think sage witches, sage women — aunts, mothers, grandmothers — have never gotten the full credit that they deserved. I look up a lot and apologize. A lot.”
Practical Magic 2 hits theaters on Sept. 10.
