After four years establishing herself within Melbourne’s independent music scene, Maxine Gillon is heading back to her hometown of Sydney, bringing her live band with her as part of a NSW and ACT weekender tour.

The shows follow the release of Gillon’s 2025 debut album ‘Girl Songs’. It introduced an artist interested in the possibilities of guitar music without being particularly concerned with fitting neatly into one corner of it.

Now Gillon is already looking beyond the debut. Her current live set includes new and unreleased material alongside reworked versions of older songs, giving audiences an early indication of where she might be heading next rather than simply recreating ‘Girl Songs’ onstage.

The Sydney date carries some additional significance. Having spent the past four years becoming part of Melbourne’s independent scene, Gillon’s return brings her back to the city where she grew up, this time with a body of work and a live band developed during her years away.

With the NSW and ACT weekender, Gillon gets the chance to reconnect with home while testing new songs in front of an audience. For anyone who came to her through ‘Girl Songs’, it offers a first glimpse at what comes after it.
