Mark Harmon is getting back out there in the newest episode of NCIS: Origins.
Harmon, who played Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs for nearly two decades on NCIS, reprises the character for the entirety of season 3 of the prequel series, and PEOPLE can exclusively debut a clip from the Oct. 13 episode where he reunites with an old friend.
“You don’t think, you just go,” Gibbs says in a voiceover as he walks on a busy boardwalk, making his return to civilization.

“You get on a plane you don’t wanna get on, walk back into a place you swore you were done with, because somewhere along the line, you got bonded to somebody, and that bond doesn’t really give a damn what you want. That’s the whole job of a teammate — especially when everything in you is saying to turn around and run like hell back home.”
Gibbs then arrives at a house and knocks on the door, taking his hat off as an old friend greets him. “My God, you’re still stunning,” says Woody (Bobby Moynihan).
“Woody,” Gibbs greets him, and Woody says, “Well, this can’t be good,” as the two walk into his house.
Alongside Gibbs’ reunion with his old friend in the present time, the Oct. 13 episode will also see a younger Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and his team help a younger Woody “when he’s accused of murdering a bowling rival.”
Harmon, 75, returns as Gibbs in the present day for Origins season 3 to investigate a “mystery tied to his ‘90s Camp Pendleton days,” the network announced in June.
In the season 3 premiere episode, Gibbs was shot by a sniper outside his remote Alaska home, and the attack is what pulled him back into civilization — and seems to have brought him to Woody’s door.

Gibbs venturing out into the world marks the “first time in six years” that he’s left Alaska, showrunner David J. North told Parade after the premiere episode. “We are going to see Gibbs back in the lower 48. We have so many surprises in store for you.”
“He’s going to be crossing with people from his past, which we’re very excited about,” North teased of what’s to come this season.
