- Thornton is expected to miss 12 to 16 weeks
Travis Kelce is opening up about teammate Tyquan Thornton’s brutal injury.
While on New Heights, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 37, shared his perspective about losing the star wide receiver, who suffered a dislocated ankle during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 4.
“Everybody f—ing loves Tyquan,” Kelce said on the Wednesday, Oct. 7 podcast episode. “The guy just shows up every single day, with his construction hat on, ready to go to work and ready to put in the time and the effort that’s needed to have the success that he’s having. We’re 4-0. He’s playing unbelievably.”
Thornton, 26, had just hauled in a 55-yard catch from quarterback Patrick Mahomes late in the fourth quarter and was tackled on the five-yard line, but when he went to stand to celebrate, he collapsed on the field at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Thornton is expected to return in 12 to 16 weeks, which means he could be back later this season — which is something Kelce & Co. can get behind.

“He’s got Pat Mahomes’ trust, he’s got the coaches’ trust, and then to have something like this happen on such a big play in the game, it sucks, man. It sucks,” Kelce said. “Obviously, positive news with the ankle, and in hopes that if we are in the playoffs and he’s healthy enough, he can get back out there.”
Now in his 14th NFL season, Kelce is the Chiefs’ most productive receiver this year, and Thornton — whose 19.9 yards per catch ranks first on the team — is a close second.
In addition to his efficiency on the field, Thornton is a “good guy” off the field, too, the Chiefs star shared.

“But at the same time, man, you just hate to see it happen to such a good guy, man,” Kelce said. “We’ve got a lot of f—ing good teammates, and you guys are gonna hear me say how much I love these guys. But Tyquan is definitely at the top of the list, man. Everybody loves that dude.”
