The contestants get one more chance to build their shields. Blunt completes his, saving him from murder. Joanne – in the first successful thing she has done perhaps from birth – completes his shield. So does Acaster. So does Sheen. However, the traitors now get to sabotage them, should they wish.
Meanwhile, Maya Jama just stole pieces of Maya Jama’s shield and threw them away, to the eternal confusion of Maya Jama. This is the Being John Malkovich of tasks at this point, if John Malkovich was played by Maya Jama.
Kenny gets to work. Maya gets to work. Acaster does not get to work. I have a feeling that if you need to find a GIF of someone giving someone else a dirty look in the near future, you won’t do better than one of Kenny glaring at Acaster.
Round two. The contestants build their shields. “I love puzzles!” screams Jerry Hall over footage of her being abjectly terrible at puzzles. And with that it’s blindfold time again.
Everyone puts their blindfold on. Maya removes hers to get busy. Kenny removes his to get busy. But James Acaster? Not a chance. He keeps his blindfold on, and Maya Jama instantly becomes furious with him. Two theories here: first, James Acaster is the worst traitor in the history of the series. Second, Maya Jama is going to have his guts for garters.
Oh this is weird. Everyone has to build a little shield. But at some point everyone will have to blindfold themselves and the traitors will nick parts of their shield to build their own shield. If the traitors build their shield, the group wins money. If they don’t, they don’t.
In other words, the traitors have to choose between winning money or staying anonymous. Is this… is this a mission that actually affects the larger game? This is unheard of! More lair in the future please.
And now for the centrepiece of the episode: getting a thing from a thing. The mission is happening somewhere so secret that no faithful has ever been before. The turret? No you silly goose, it’s the Traitors’ Lair. Has there always been a traitors’ lair? I don’t think I have ever heard anyone ever mention a lair before.
Meanwhile, Miranda and Jerry are deep in conversation about how much they fancy Monty Don, and also to loudly stage whisper about how much they think James Blunt is a traitor.
Michael Sheen gathers a group to explain his theories about the murder in plain sight. He talks about Miranda and Leigh-Anne doing their weird hip thrusts on Friday. The theory is this: if you had just murdered someone in plain sight, wouldn’t you go and do some weird hip thrusts with one of Little Mix? It makes perfect total sense.
Claudia (dressed as James Blunt) reveals that it was a murder in plain sight. Maya points out that she was in a room with him, Acaster and Kenny. They’re trying to work out if someone served him a drink. Bash might have given him a drink, or he might not have done. Bash knows that Bash had a kombucha, though, and isn;t that the main thing?
