Spice Girl Melanie C is swapping the microphone for the decks when she hits Sydney’s Beresford Sundays for a free DJ set on Sunday 15 November, just hours before wrapping up her Sweat tour at the Enmore Theatre.
It’s a busy day for Sporty Spice, who has carved out a successful solo career while building a reputation behind the decks, playing everywhere from Ibiza to Coachella. Her latest album, Sweat, leans into her love of dance music, making a Sunday afternoon DJ set a fitting warm-up for her final Australian show that evening.
As one fifth of the Spice Girls, Melanie C helped define an era of British pop, but she’s never been content to live off the band’s success. Across nine solo albums, she’s moved between pop, rock and electronic music, developing a sound that’s increasingly at home in clubs and on festival dancefloors.
The Beresford has been a fixture of Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ nightlife for 16 years, and the afternoon will bring together some familiar faces from its DJ community. Downstairs, Kadance, Colin Gaff, Alex Taylor, CallmeCHRS and Adam Love will keep the disco, house and pop coming from midday.
Upstairs opens at 1pm, with Melanie C’s DJ set taking centre stage alongside performances from resident drag artists including Fairah Nuff, Kalin Klein, Danni Issues and Dammit Janet. DJs Hayday, Erfaan, Dingo Disco and Jordan Haych will also be on hand to keep things moving into the evening.
For Sydney fans, it’s a rare opportunity to catch a member of one of pop’s biggest groups in a much more intimate setting before she heads across town for her Enmore Theatre show.
Entry is free from midday, with capacity limited.
