NEED TO KNOW
- Collin Gosselin released a memoir about growing up on Jon & Kate Plus 8, making allegations of abuse by his mom, Kate Gosselin
- Kate, who shares Collin and seven other kids with ex-husband Jon Gosselin, has continued to deny the allegations
- “I am happy and nothing they can say can change that,” she wrote in a comment posted Oct. 27 as she addressed “bitter haters”
Kate Gosselin is not shying away from ongoing controversy after the release of estranged son Collin’s memoir.
In the comments section of a TikTok video posted last week for her boyfriend Steve Neild’s birthday, she responded to a follower who told her to “protect your mental health” and “go and be happy” amid the “madness” online. “Mothers like us … are somehow blamed for everything. Don’t bother responding,” the follower wrote.
“Thank you. Yes I totally agree,” Kate, 51, replied in a comment shared Tuesday, Oct. 27. “I was ‘guilty’ when I was silent and now that I’m responding, I guess I’m saying too much that is true and that makes sense so now they say I’m ‘guilty’ for answering.”
“What a bunch of bitter haters! I AM happy and nothing they can say can change that!” the mom of eight added in the comment.

Kate’s comment about her state of mind comes two weeks after her estranged son Collin, 22, published In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, a tell-all memoir about growing up on Jon & Kate Plus 8 alongside his siblings. Kate shares twins Mady and Cara, 26, and sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Leah, Alexis, Aaden and Joel with ex-husband Jon Gosselin. Collin and Hannah are the only kids Jon remains in touch with.
The memoir includes various allegations of abuse, including more details about the basement room Kate allegedly kept Collin in as a child and the behavioral institution she sent him to when he was 11.
He claimed that Kate only visited him one time at the facility, but she denied that in a TikTok comment, writing that she “visited every time the facility felt he was stable enough for a visit.” She also said that any time “he earned phone privileges or was allowed to have or make a phone call,” she was in touch with him.
Collin was sent to the institution, according to another comment written by Kate, due to “violent behavior” at the time.
On Monday, Oct. 26, a rep for Collin addressed Kate’s claims in a statement. “It is disturbing that Kate continues to make false accusations and publicly attack her own child despite multiple professional psychological evaluations contradicting her claims,” the rep told Entertainment Tonight.

“Let us be absolutely clear: Collin has never used a weapon to harm a family member, nor has he ever harmed or killed an animal in his lifetime. These allegations are categorically false. To publicly accuse your innocent child of such heinous acts to protect your reputation is beyond reprehensible. Collin has shown extraordinary courage in telling his story, and he will not be intimidated or silenced by these damaging accusations.”
After Collin previously accused Kate of being “verbally abusive” and isolating him from his siblings, Kate’s attorney Richard Puleo told The Sun in 2024 that he did not believe she had done anything to “intentionally harm” her son. He maintained that “she did what she did to protect herself and her family” from what he described as “troubled behavior.”
