Gabourey Sidibe and her husband Brandon Frankel already have a plan for the candy their children get for Halloween.
During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the American Horror Story actress, 43, shared her and Frankel’s trick to keep their 2-year-old twins Cooper and Maya’s candy for themselves. Sidibe, who welcomed her twins in April 2024, told host Jimmy Kimmel that she and Frankel do a “Switch Witch” with their children, who currently “have no need for candy.”
“We get them to get the candy, and then we say the ‘Switch Witch’ is going to come when you’re sleeping and leave you a gift and then we eat the candy,” she explained.
Asked what exactly the “Switch Witch” gives the kids as Halloween gifts, the Empire actress shared that she and Frankel typically ask their kids what they want as gifts. She noted that her kids, even though they are young, have strong opinions about what they want and don’t want, which sometimes complicates it.
“The funny thing about having 2½ year olds that sounds really young, but they have opinions,” she said, noting how hard it was to nail down what her kids wanted to dress up as for Halloween. “But he asked for a Spider-Man gift, … and she wants a spider girl gift.”
Back in September, the doting mom appeared on Good Morning America and shared what her twins have requested to be for Halloween, sharing that they were excited about the spooky holiday for the first time.
“My kids are really excited for the first time [for Halloween]. Because now they know, they’re 2, so they know what it is now,” said Sidibe. “So we’re letting them choose their costumes.”
“My daughter, every time I ask — I’m doing this thing where I ask them every day. Every day my daughter says something different. A cow! A cat! A werewolf!” she continued. “My son? A blackberry! Every day! Wants to be a blackberry!”

“A blackberry?” asked GMA co-host Michael Strahan. “I will be sewing a blackberry costume, because that’s what he wants to be,” shared Sidibe.
GMA Co-host George Stephanopoulos went on to ask what Sidibe’s son knows about Blackberries, seemingly referring to the phone and not the fruit.
“I don’t know! He’s eaten one! He’s eaten some,” responded Sidibe. “But I don’t know what his relationship is like yet.”
“Oh, not the device?” asked Stephanopoulos. “Not the phone,” Sidibe said. “No, yeah, the fruit. He is 2.”
While Stephanopoulos laughed, Strahan jumped in to say that a kid doesn’t know what a BlackBerry phone is.
“He’s not a business manager in the 2010s. He’s a child!” joked Sidibe.
