NEED TO KNOW

  • John Stamos became a heartthrob as Uncle Jesse on the 1990s sitcom Full House
  • He tells PEOPLE if he plans on bringing his character’s signature hairdo, a mullet
  • “I think very few could pull off a mullet,” Stamos says

Uncle Jesse’s famous mullet rocked the world in the ‘90s. With the style having a recent resurgence, Full House star John Stamos answers the one question on everyone’s mind: Will he bring his back?

“I think very few people could pull off a mullet,” the 63-year-old actor tells PEOPLE. “I don’t think I would pull it off these days.” (We beg to differ.)

In the beloved sitcom, Stamos played the handsome and charming brother-in-law to Bob Saget‘s Danny Tanner. After his sister’s death, he moves into the Tanners’ San Francisco home to help raise his nieces D.J. (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen).

“Early on in Full House, the mullets were in. And I had a good one,” Stamos says. “The writers just started writing to it. They started just doing hair jokes, and it was a funny place to make jokes. I played into it.”

Aside from his family, the most important thing to him is his hair, with one of his most famous catchphrases being, “Watch the hair!” In one episode, Uncle Jesse even jokes, “When I was born, the doctor smacked my butt and gave me a blow dryer.”

Back then, the General Hospital star said he never paid too much attention to his hair. “I just didn’t really think about it because it was just my hair,” he says. “I’m grateful it’s lasted this long.”

Stamos says being known for his luscious locks can be tiring at times.

“There’s times too where you go like, ‘Enough with my hair already.’” Even so, he admits he still likes it. “I can’t help it, really,” he says, laughing.

Stamos says fans and friends alike often ask him for the secret to his great hair. Teaming up with Pantene for its new campaign, the actor is finally ready to reveal the products he’s relied on to keep his hair healthy and voluminous.

For smooth and shiny hair, Stamos uses Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner. These staple products are packed with antioxidants and pro-vitamin B5 to hydrate hair for up to 72 hours.

When Stamos’ hair needs some extra love and care, he uses Pantene’s Miracle Rescue Deep Repair Conditioner, whose nutrient-rich formula repairs damage and softens it.

“Pantene has always been a part of my life,” Stamos says.
