Coi Leray is opening up about her past beef with Latto, revealing that the situation once turned physical.

In a new interview on The Jason Lee Show, which premiered Wednesday, Sept. 16, Leray, 29, discussed her relationship with Latto, 27, the 2023 tension between the two rappers and what ultimately happened behind the scenes.

The feud began in 2023 after Latto (real name Alyssa Stephens) referenced Leray on her track “Put It on Da Floor,” rapping, “Smokin’ on that gas, blunt big as Coi Leray.”

For Leray, the issue went beyond the bar itself. She said she did not appreciate her name being used in a way that she felt fueled an online rap beef.

“I don’t want to be f—ed with,” Leray explained. “I don’t want nobody to say my name. Don’t use my name for clickbait and for clout and to create rap beef that I’m not in.”

But according to Leray, the situation eventually escalated beyond music and social media.

“One thing led to another. Me and [Latto’s sister] Brooklyn fought behind the scenes,” Leray added. “It was a whole thing. A whole fistfight. I done refractured my knee and everything.”

Leray went on to describe the altercation, saying Brooklyn, 24, initially swung at her but did not make contact because Leray’s security intervened. The two later encountered each other again and exchanged blows.

“It was like we ran up on each other. One swung, one swung,” Leray said.

She also said she had recently undergone knee surgery at the time and was wearing a knee brace while on tour.

Leray made clear that she was not looking for a fight, explaining that she felt she was defending herself after Latto’s lyrics and the subsequent situation. She also said she believed Latto and her sister genuinely liked her before the conflict.

Despite how messy things became, Leray said she eventually decided to put her pride aside and reach out to Latto to squash the beef.

“I really put my pride aside,” she said. “I really didn’t want to be the first person. I felt like I didn’t, I shouldn’t have. But like for a while, but then you got to a point where I’m like, ‘No, like it don’t hurt to just be the bigger person.’”

The timing also coincided with a shift in Leray’s perspective after becoming a mother. She said she wanted to start over and have a clean slate, adding that she no longer wanted beef with anyone.

Leray’s relationship with Latto also came up during a playful moment on the show, when host Jason Lee pointed out that he had previously revealed Latto was dating 21 Savage.

Lee, 49, joked that Latto was still mad at him for telling everyone about the relationship. Leray fired back with a joke of her own: “Well, she got a whole baby by him now, so she should thank me.”

When asked whether fans could eventually see a Leray and Latto collaboration, the rapper said she thinks so.

“She’s open to it,” Leray told Lee.

The reconciliation comes as Leray says she is trying to move away from the drama and expectations often attached to female rappers. During the interview, she spoke about wanting to be viewed beyond the confines of female rap and praised artists including Nicki Minaj, Cardi B and Rihanna.

“I appreciate all the fans of female rap. I appreciate all the female rappers and I love y’all down. I want everybody to win, but I don’t want no parts of that,” Leray said. “I feel like I’m not bigger. I don’t think I’m bigger than that. I just don’t think that space sits with me anymore. I’m kind of just trying to grow into a different world.”

Leray’s latest single, “Nothing Into Something,” drops on Sept. 18.
