NEED TO KNOW

- Marla Mindelle stars as Nicole Kidman opposite Josh Sharp as Cate Blanchett in the awards season twist on A Christmas Carol
- The limited six-week engagement begins Nov. 16 and officially opens Nov. 30
Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett are headed Off-Broadway — well, sort of.
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that A Kidman Carol, the outrageous holiday comedy that reimagines Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol through the lens of Hollywood awards season, will open at New World Stages in New York City this fall.
The strictly limited engagement will star three-time Tony Award nominee and Olivier Award winner Marla Mindelle as Kidman and Drama Desk Award nominee Josh Sharp as Blanchett, reprising the roles they played in the show’s sold-out developmental run last year.
Written by Kevin Zak and directed by Skylar Fox, the six-week run begins performances Nov. 16 ahead of an official opening night on Nov. 30. The production will play 54 performances before concluding Dec. 30.
Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The premise is every bit as unhinged as its title suggests.
Set on Oscar’s Eve, A Kidman Carol casts Blanchett — played by Sharp — as a “Hollywood Scrooge” who is visited by three spirits of Kidman, all played by Mindelle, in an attempt to teach her the true meaning of awards season.
The journey takes Cate from her past in the Australian outback to a present-day “Dickensian Tinsel Town” and ultimately into a frightening vision of the future. Unless she takes Nicole’s message to heart, the show warns, “her soul, cinema, and the world as we know it could perish.”

A Kidman Carol comes from Zak, the Lucille Lortel and Queerty Award-nominated playwright behind Ginger Twinsies.
The show marks the first major theatrical role for Mindelle after wrapping her acclaimed run as Céline Dion in Titanique. She won a Lucille Lortel Award for her performance in the hilarious Titanic parody, and earned Tony nominations for both her performance and for penning the musical’s book following its Broadway transfer.
Mindelle’s Broadway credits also include Sister Act, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella and South Pacific. In 2024, she led and starred in her second original musical, The Big Gay Jamboree, for its Off-Broadway premiere.
Sharp, meanwhile, recently wrote and starred in the one-man show ta-da!, which played New York’s Greenwich House Theater and London’s Soho Theatre. He also starred in, co-wrote and executive produced A24’s Dicks: The Musical, and was named one of Variety’s 10 Storytellers to Watch for 2025.
Fox, an Obie Award-winning director, writer and designer, previously created and directed Trisha Paytas’ Big Broadway Dream. His theatrical work also includes magic design for Broadway productions including Fat Ham, Once Upon a Mattress and BOOP! The Musical.
Tickets for A Kidman Carol go on sale to the general public Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. ET.
