The next installment of The Mummy is coming, and it now has an official name.

The film franchise’s official social accounts announced on Thursday, Oct. 15, that the next installment will be titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead. The movie will open on Oct. 15, 2027, exactly one year from the announcement.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct the film, and David Coggeshall will write it, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Brendan Fraser will return as Rick O’Connell, and Rachel Weisz will reprise her role as Evie O’Connell/Evelyn Carnahan, according to the outlet.

Rounding out the cast are Michael Johnston, Kevin J. O’Connor, John Hannah, Numan Acar and Oded Fehr.

It’s been nearly three decades since The Mummy premiered in 1999, earning more than $409 million globally, according to Box Office Mojo. The franchise continued with The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008.

Fraser, 57, confirmed reports of a fourth installment of the franchise during a May appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“Well, we’re gonna get the band back together — the only way to do it, right?” he said. “So, we’re going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for the last 20-whatever years.”

In his conversation with Fallon, Fraser said he wasn’t sure a new film would ever be made, alluding to earlier attempts to resurrect the franchise, including the 2017 reboot of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise. The Mummy Returns also introduced Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Scorpion King, who starred in the 2002 spin-off film The Scorpion King.

“What we’re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations … I should probably stop talking like this before I give anything away,” Fraser said. “However, I know that — please wish me luck. I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.”

While no official plot details have been revealed for The Mummy: Book of the Dead, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor hinted that Rick and Evie’s next expedition could lead them deep into Peru.
