Madison Bailey is showing off her cool style in a new Journeys ad campaign.
The Outer Banks actress stars in the brand’s “Turn It Up” back-to-school ad campaign alongside Anna Cathcart, Sky Brown, Ocean Brown, Samara Cyn and INJI, celebrating experimentation, individuality and the journey of self-discovery.
“The whole crew was very collaborative,” Bailey, 29, tells PEOPLE of getting on set with Journeys and her costars. “Everybody was very energetic on the day. And it was just a really good space to just have fun and make a cool campaign.”

The campaign aims to encourage young people to embrace authenticity and creativity with their fashion — especially their shoes. The brand hopes to be a resource in the process, providing shoe options across a variety of styles as we head into back-to-school season (and beyond).
“Young people are constantly being told who they should be and what they should look like,” said Journeys CMO Stacy Doren in a press release. “We want Journeys to be the place where they can tune out that noise, try something new and figure out what feels like them. ‘Turn It Up’ is about giving the next generation the freedom to turn up the volume on who they are.”

Growing up as the youngest of seven siblings, Bailey says she learned how to dress and style herself “very early on” and always had the freedom to explore and try new things.
“My parents aren’t pushing anything on any one of us. There’s so many of us,” Bailey tells PEOPLE exclusively. “And it was just like getting to pick out whatever I wanted to wear and whatever I liked.”
Bailey continues: “A lot of my style inspiration is just my older siblings. I look at my older sisters like they’re everything. So, I wore some of my brother’s clothes, I wore my sister’s clothes, and I figured it out. It’s like finding my own style within their hand-me-downs.”
Bailey also reflects on her long-time role as Kiara Carrera in Netflix’s Outer Banks as the final season approaches on Aug. 20.
“It does feel like it’s very own unique graduation. I don’t know how to describe it. It is such an era of my life that can only be described in so many ways. It’s just so special,” Bailey says of the show coming to an end.

The actress got her start in TV playing small roles in Mr. Mercedes and Constantine. In 2018, she played Wendy Hernandez in The CW’s Black Lightning. Since 2020, Bailey has portrayed Kiara “Kie” Carrera in the Netflix drama, a free-spirited teen and loyal friend to the “Pogues.”
