Model Carolyn Murphy has a new role as partner and chief brand officer at Infinity Wellness, and she says it’s one that suits her perfectly these days.
“Wellness has been a part of my life for so many years,” says the Estée Lauder model 53, who was already a fan of the brand’s products, like their popular True Greens powder.
But she notes that wellness wasn’t always part of her lexicon; she did survive the wild days of the supermodel crazes of the ‘90s and early aughts, after all.
“You know, the debauchery was fun and par for the course, but in my early 20s, I realized I didn’t feel good,” she tells PEOPLE of the era. “I was on the plane every other day, and on these long shoots, and I was exhausted. So I decided at that time that I wanted to feel better, partly because so much of my job is about performance.”
She adds, “I wanted to optimize and look my best and feel my best. Because yes, I can drink all the coffee and skip meals that I want, but then I was going to have low energy and not feel good. So I realized I could find other ways of self-care, and then I think my self-care became more about devotion and dedication, as opposed to this kind of pressure to be perfect.”

She notes, “Wellness shouldn’t feel like a full-time job, and I don’t want it to, you know, seem like something that was unattainable.”

Murphy, who at one time lived in Costa Rica and did yoga and surfed daily, says her wellness regimen still includes yoga and making sure to get outside for a little sunshine every day.
“My health routines have always been about vitality,” she says. “It’s like, how do I want to feel my most vital? Same with meditation and breath work, which for me is so much more about release and about my mental health.”

She also loves walking and says the minute she lands in a city, she’s hitting the pavement. “My daughter and I walk all the time, and I’ll get at least 20, 40 minutes a day,” she adds of her 25-year old Dylan, whom she shares with her ex Jake Schroeder.

Of course, Murphy adds that she’s not some die-hard health freak and still can enjoy a bag of Doritos and still loves her cup of coffee, her chocolate and her reality TV shows, like Love Is Blind.
“It’s all about moderation,” she says. “I don’t want people to think I’m a total do-gooder and living my life in perfection, because I’m not. I mean, really, that’s where we get so hard on ourselves, and that inner voice comes in and that critic, when it’s just really about integrating routines into your life. And if you fall off, you can always get back on the health train.”
She also makes sure to unplug from technology.
“It’s about making sure that you have time to disconnect and spend time with friends,” she says, adding that she’s become a fan of the Brick, which keeps her locked out of certain social media apps for periods of time.
“I think it’s just about being realistic with your choices, and at this point in my life, being in my 50s, it’s more about the longevity. How do I want these next years to look like and feel? I want the quality of those years, so how do I want to feel and live and have that vitality, energy and strength?”
As for the partnership with Infinity Wellness, she says she can’t wait to see where things will go.
“I love the brand,” she says. “With our plant protein powder, you know you’re getting 20 grams of protein. And the bars are nutrition on the go, and it’s all just easy, as it should be. It’s just about integrating, as opposed to something that just seems like it’s unattainable.”
She adds, “It’s so cool to be a part of this and have this meaningful role. I’m thinking about the brand holistically, like how it should look and how we communicate to our customers and ultimately how it makes people feel. It’s a natural evolution for both the brand and myself.”
