Just in time for Halloween, Lulu unleashes Little Death!, a ferocious two-and-a-half-minute blast of punk rock that tackles sex, death and female pleasure with absolutely no interest in behaving itself.

Taking its name from the French expression la petite mort, the track turns the subject of female sexuality into a riot of crunchy guitars, filthy bass, pounding drums and a chorus of femme voices screaming their lungs out. It’s loud, frantic and built to get bodies moving in the mosh pit.

Conceived in Lulu’s bedroom studio and fuelled by Australia’s thriving femme-led pub rock scene, Little Death! was given its final punch by producer and mixer Bonnie Knight, with mastering by Becki Whitton.

The accompanying music video takes aim at the sexual double standards of classic slasher films, where young women are routinely punished for indulging their desires. Filmed at Melbourne’s Bakehouse Studios, it combines retro horror imagery with a healthy dose of weirdness.

It’s a gleefully twisted collision of punk, pleasure and horror, with Lulu turning an enduring cultural taboo into something to shout about.

Lulu and her band will celebrate the release with a free headline show at Lulie Tavern on Friday 6 November, joined by Laura and the Hell Cutz.
