Morgan Geyser, who stabbed her friend in 2014 to earn the approval of the mythical Slender Man, is seeking release from confinement just months after escaping a group home. 

The 24-year-old filed a petition to be granted conditional release on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Within 20 days of the filing, the court must appoint an examiner to speak with her and write a report, per the petition. 

The report is due to the court within 30 days of the examiner being appointed. Then, the court is expected to consider the request within 30 days of receiving the report. 

The petition comes after Geyser had her previous conditional release revoked for running away from her Wisconsin group home.

In January 2025, she was granted conditional release from Winnebago Mental Health Institute and placed in a group home. That November, she removed her monitoring bracelet and escaped.

She was recaptured the next day. Subsequently, her conditional release was revoked that December.

Before that, she had been denied release from the mental institution multiple times.

Geyser was convicted in October 2017 after she pleaded guilty to attempted homicide for stabbing her classmate Payton Leutner several times in Waukesha, Wisc. Geyser and her co-defendant Anissa Weier were both 12 years old at the time of the stabbing.

In May 2014, Weier and Geyser lured Leutner, also 12, into the woods following a sleepover. There, Geyser and Weier took turns stabbing Leutner a total of 19 times to reportedly show their dedication to Slender Man, a fictional supernatural being that originated in online “creepypasta” memes.

Weier and Geyser left Leutner in the woods, but she survived after managing to crawl out into a nearby bike path.

Despite Geyser’s plea, she was found not guilty by reason of mental disorder. She was sentenced to 40 years in a psychiatric hospital.

Weier, meanwhile, was granted conditional release in 2021.
